This former house turned lounge is known for its “after work drinks” scene and notorious pickup reputation. It attracts a more conservative crowd than other Midtown establishments, and is filled with mainly 30ish, clean-cut white-collars in their casual business attire. Cosmopolitan has a very relaxed yet upscale atmosphere, and is a great place to chill with your friends. Don’t be intimidated by the cover, because it includes admission to its neighboring club Lava Lounge.
Walk up the front entrance stairs and you’re in the outdoor patio, where you can enjoy the night breeze as you sip on your signature Cosmopolitan, or one of their 30 martinis. Until 11pm you can also order small entries, of which I recommend the coconut shrimp. When you’re ready for more excitement, leave the laid-back atmosphere of the patio to go inside the house. You are greeted by the large, silver bar and modest dance floor, which you can expect to be packed on the weekends. Don’t be afraid to get out there and get your groove on, even if you can’t dance, because nobody here seems to care.
To the right of the main floor is a small, inviting sitting room, whose walls are decorated with paintings from local artists. This living room is occupied by comfy couches for a quieter, more intimate atmosphere conducive to conversation. As it can get hot with all the people in the house, you’ll definitely want to check out Cosmopolitan’s large, enclosed back porch. This patio is the bridge between Cosmopolitan and Lava, and is where the pickup and socializing action is focused. Don’t be surprised for strangers to come up and start conversations with you. Additionally, the back porch features live entertainment, with jazz on Thursdays, acoustic on Fridays, and house DJs on Saturdays. |
