The Georgia Aquarium opened on November 23, 2005. The Aquarium has assembled a dynamic team from many fields to create the most entertaining and exciting experience for you. Guests will delight in majestic exhibits that inspire, entertain and educate. The Aquarium will enhance Georgia tourism and provide local residents with a world-class entertainment attraction they will want to visit again and again. It will anchor downtown’s revitalization efforts, a benefit to both the city and the state, expecting to attract more than 2 million visitors in the first year, create more than 200 job opportunities and offer hundreds of additional volunteer positions. The Georgia Aquarium promises to be entertaining … intriguing … and educational for guests of all ages. While promoting a fun and entertaining learning experience, the Aquarium will instill in our guests a new appreciation for the world’s aquatic biodiversity. The Aquarium will add a new dimension to Georgia’s education curriculum. Twenty-five percent of the public floor space has been dedicated to educating students of all ages who visit the Aquarium. Annually, 70,000 schoolchildren will participate in the Aquarium’s educational programs – an experience that will integrate the new curriculum standards for the state of Georgia. The Aquarium will utilize innovative technologies as well as interactive and interdisciplinary techniques to ensure that students have an enjoyable academic experience. On a more global scale, the Georgia Aquarium will support, conduct and lead research on environmental and conservation issues.
