Consistently ranked one of the country's top 10 steak houses, Chops serves the best USDA prime aged beef. The restaurant’s design exudes an aura of strength with its use of dark colors, woods and clean lines. Redwood columns, alabaster chandeliers, coffered ceilings and Italian black marble floors are its signatures. The bar is the epitome of this warm, masculine design, made in antique style with ebony, redwood, mahogany, and black-and-white marble. The focus here is on the food, so the decor is simple in order to not distract from the dining.
The visual focal point at Chops is their open kitchen, which allows diners to watch the chefs’ expert preparations in action. This is quintessential fine dining, and the service is pampering. To start off your night, try the whole Maine lobster, oysters Rockefeller, jumbo shrimp, or jumbo lump crab cake. Chop’s famous beef cuts include Prime filet, New York strip, New York strip au poivre, bone-in Ribeye, or filet of steak tartare tableside. Other menu standouts are their notorious fresh lobster, double cut veal chop, Norwegian smoked salmon, large Dover sole or the Surf & Turf, which is a half pound Prime filet over a quarter pound batter-fried lobster tail. To wash down your three-pound porterhouse, Chops offers a book-length wine and champagne list.
Chops also boasts a downstairs Lobster Bar, which has a completely different ambiance and menu. The bar is shaped in a half-moon made of three different types of marble, and the arched ceiling overhead is tiled in a dramatic herringbone pattern. Here you can explore oyster varieties from all over the world, such as Blue Points and Malpeques. Try the grilled diver scallops, shellfish in spicy tomato sauce, soft-shell crabs or "Crab Lobsters" in Garlic, Baked Oreganato, or Fra Diavolo. Save room for dessert! Specialties include their famous Chicago cheesecake, white chocolate creme brulee, and Italian rum raisin bread pudding.
